Western Mediterranean exports increased by 18.09 percent in July compared to the previous month and reached 229 million 61 thousand 698 dollars. The natural stone-dominated mines and metals sector was the sector that increased its exports the most in this period. Looking at the 7-month course of regional exports, total exports increased by 1.05 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching 1 billion 560 million 799 thousand 758 dollars.
In July, the fresh fruit and vegetable sector realized the highest exports. Exports of the sector increased by 3.68 percent to 55 million 75 thousand 933 dollars. The mining and metals sector, which ranked second, managed to increase its exports by 51.08 percent to 50 million 299 thousand 968 dollars. 28.9 million dollars of these exports came from the marble-dominated natural stone sector. The remaining exports of the sector were realized from ferro chrome and chrome products. The chemicals and chemical products sector, which ranked third, also increased its exports at a record rate. The chemical sector, which increased exports by 57.66 percent, was the dazzling sector of July with exports of 31 million 197 thousand 650 dollars. The fourth-ranked wood products and forestry products sector exported 29 million 904 thousand 80 dollars with an increase of 8.53 percent in this period. The displacement situation that has been experienced for months in the fifth place of the list also took place this month. This month, the air conditioning sector took the fifth place with an increase of 21.69 percent and exports of 9 million 601 thousand 932 dollars.
Looking at the export data for July, it was seen that not only the sectors in the top five did not increase, but the remaining sectors increased their exports at record levels. The ready-to-wear and apparel sector increased its exports by 124.4 percent, from 2.9 million dollars to 6.5 million dollars. Exports of the defense and aerospace sector increased by 58.65 percent, from 1.9 million dollars to 3 million dollars.
Most exports to Germany
Looking at the distribution of July exports by country, Germany continued to be the country with the highest exports from the region. In July 2024, 34 million 275 thousand 175 dollars exports were realized to Germany with an increase of 14.84 percent. Exports to the Russian Federation, which ranked second, decreased by 1.84 percent and amounted to 17 million 921 thousand 443 dollars. Exports to the People’s Republic of China amounted to 16 million 526 thousand 510 dollars with a decrease of 12.32 percent in July. Exports to the United States increased by 45.33 percent in July to 11 million 752 thousand 787 dollars. In the fifth place of the list was France, which rose to this position for the first time. Exports to France increased by a record 148.03 percent to 11 million 4 thousand 752 dollars.
Looking at the 7-month course of the region’s exports, the exports of the fresh fruit and vegetable sector exceeded half a billion dollars. Although the exports of the sector decreased by 7.36 percent, it was the sector that realized the most exports from the Western Mediterranean with 500 million 217 thousand 349 dollars. The fresh fruit and vegetable sector also showed the feature of being the sector that realizes one third of the region’s exports. The mining and metals sector, which ranked second, realized exports of 289 million 304 thousand 680 dollars with an increase of 11.91 percent. While the natural stone sector realized 176.9 million dollars of the 289.3 million dollar exports from marble exports, marble exports increased by 10.33 percent in the 7-month period and reached 176 million 901 thousand 220 dollars.
