Scholz Meets Mirziyoyev in Uzbekistan

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz met with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the historic city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. According to a statement by the Office of the President of Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyev visited the historic Registan Square in Samarkand together with Scholz, who came to the country for talks, and took a photo together. Later, an official welcoming ceremony was held for Scholz at the Congress Center in Samarkand. After the ceremony, Mirziyoyev and Scholz held bilateral and delegation talks. “We see this visit as a sign of your special interest in the further development of multifaceted Uzbek-German relations and support for the irreversible reforms being implemented in the new Uzbekistan,” Mirziyoyev said, noting the historical significance of Scholz’s visit. Mirziyoyev and Scholz tasked their foreign ministries to further maximize Uzbek-German relations and hold regular consultations on international and regional issues, including the situation in Afghanistan. The leaders agreed to develop a “roadmap” for the training of Uzbek specialists in Germany in high-demand fields, as well as a joint “roadmap” for the implementation of the agreements signed during the talks. The German side expressed its readiness to support the expansion of language learning and teacher training programs in the regions of Uzbekistan. At the end of the talks, Mirziyoyev and Scholz signed a Joint Declaration on cooperation between the parties. The two countries also signed agreements on cooperation in the fields of migration issues, veterinary and animal husbandry, climate change, sustainable use of water resources, highly important mineral raw materials and transport, as well as the Program of Technological Partnership and Industrial Cooperation for 2024-2026.
